RAW - A Packaging Solution
RAW is a sustainable food packaging solution developed around the concepts of sustainability and the theme of construction/deconstruction. The project was driven by the belief that the food packaging industry has significant room for improvement in terms of environmental impact. By embracing natural materials and focusing on the lifecycle of packaging, the design aims to highlight the delicate balance between creating and deconstructing.
The solution takes the shape of a sushi roll—drawing inspiration from the natural simplicity of sushi, which is made almost entirely from organic ingredients. The packaging itself mimics the form of a sushi roll, using materials that are almost 100% natural to align with the ethos of the food it contains.
The core concept of RAW is to emphasize the process of deconstruction in packaging. Once the sushi has been consumed, the packaging is intended to be destroyed and decomposed, contributing to the natural cycle of biodegradation. This process ensures that the packaging is not only sustainable but actively participates in the environmental lifecycle, closing the loop of construction and deconstruction.
RAW represents a forward-thinking approach to food packaging, merging natural design with sustainability, and providing a meaningful alternative in the pursuit of eco-conscious solutions for the food industry.
In my first sketch I mapped out how I wanted the packaging to function. I couldn't think of any better way to make this design feel natural, than to draw from the shape of the sushi itself.

2D template of my packaging design. The main beige area was set to be a label printed with recycled/rice paper. The top deep green portion, out of seaweed. Fresh foods like sushi are not meant to be stored or preserved for very long, therefore it made sense to eliminate any plastics.
